Sundowns Sue Pitso For R8 Million

On Wednesday, Sundowns filled the papers in the Johannesburg High Court and they are seeking an order to force Mosimane and Moira Tlhagale Sports Marketing and Management, which is owned by his wife, Moira Tlhagale, to pay back the money after the they refused to do so.

Mosimane joined Al Ahly last year after he resigned from Sundowns. Mosimane’s leaving Sundowns was acrimonious. According to the court papers, Sundowns lawyers Bowman Gilfillan said that on May 20 2020 Tlhagale and the club signed a head coach agreement in which Sundowns employed Mosimane on a 48 month fixed-term contract starting from June 1 2020 and expected to run until May 31 2024.

The lawyers said that Sundowns paid Tlhagale’s company R8 632 260, which was a 10% agent commission for getting Mosimane’s signature to Sundowns. The club paid the commission upfront instead of dividing and paying it out for every season that Mosimane completed as Sundowns coach.

There was an agreement that Mosimane and Tlhagale will pay back the pro-rata of the commission if he leaves the job before his contract ends. According to the contract, Sundowns agreed to pay Mosimane a salary of R1 550 000 a month. There was also an agreement that Mosimane will be paid between R5 000 and R8 000 for every match he won and 10% of every prize money the club would receive for winning any of the official Premier Soccer League, Confederation of African Football (CAF) and or Fifa competitions.

Mosimane terminated his contract after having spent just four months of the 48-month contract. Mosimane is now owing Sundowns R7 912 905.
