MDC Alliance trio, Joana Mamombe, Netsai Marova and Cecilia Chimbiri have been arrested and their lawyers re still working on establishing charges levelled against them.
The trio was initially arrested in May last year following a flash food protest in Warren Park and was charged with flouting lockdown regulations.
The three were allegedly kidnapped from police custody by suspected state security agents and were later found dumped in Bindura.
They alleged that their kidnappers sexually assaulted them.
They were re-arrested for faking their abduction.
The trio has been in and out of prison since then. Speaking on the recent arrest, MDC Alliance deputy spokesperson Clifford Hlatshwayo said the trio’s arrest was a violation of the constitution. He said:
They are being held at the Harare Central Police Station. @mdczimbabwe No to weaponisation and abuse of state institutions.
They were arrested this afternoon at their doctor’s offices.
