Zimbabwe Defence Minister Thrown Under The Bus Over Linking Covid 19 To China

The Zimbabwean government has distanced itself from Minister of Defence Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri’s utterances that the Chinese are responsible for the outbreak of the Covid-19 global pandemic.

The first coronavirus index case was registered in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.

Muchinguri was tricked by a freelance journalist Simba Chikanza of Zimeye in a call who pretended to be a close sympathizer passing condolence to the Minister on the passing of a fellow minister in Zanu Pf who had died. As the conversation went on, Minister Muchinguri began speaking on China – Covid links and also attempts by detractors to use the presidential security to spread Covid to the presidium.

Early last year Muchinguri-Kashiri blasphemously claimed Covid-19 was unleashed by God on whites as punishment for imposing sanctions on Zimbabwe.

Muchinguri-Kashiri is part of a 11-member inter-ministerial ad hoc taskforce appointed by President Mnangagwa to deal with the outbreak of coronavirus in line with a Cabinet decision made on 17 March 2020.
