The Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin Nigeria, venue of the much anticipated qualifying game between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Leone Stars of Sierra- Leone will by without fans as both teams battle.
In a bid to qualify for the 2021 AFCON, the Super Eagles will play the Leone Stars in a double legged encounter on November 13th and 17th respectively.
After speculations that 7000 fans were to watch the match, the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development in conjunction with the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 has ruled out chances of both teams receiving the support of home fans.
In a statement to the Edo State government and the Nigerian Football Federation ( NFF), the authorities said breaching the COVID-19 protocol would not be condoned.
” The Ministry wishes to bring to your urgent attention that in compliance with the condition of no gathering agreed upon by the Ministry and the Presidential Taskforce (PTF) on COVID-19 before he Federal Government opened up football and contact sports, the match between Nigeria and Sierra- Leone will not have any audience and no gathering “.
It was also added that prior to the match testing will be conducted on all players and officials.
