The Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution that was set up by the Lagos State Government to investigate the Police brutality by the officers of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) has entered it’s fourth sitting on Tuesday 3 November 2020.
Another petitioner, Mr. NdukweEkekwe was before the panel to testify and narrate what unraveled between him and the officers of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
This came in after a businessman, Mr. AfeezMojeed wrote a petition to the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry revealing how Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari extorted him of over four (4) million naira in 2014 where he has detained for 14 days.
Also, a teacher, Mrs. NdubisiObiechina narrated her story before the panel on how she lost her pregnancy while in police custody. She and her husband were detained and tortured by the SARS officers for 22 days. But she was later acquainted by the Federal High Court.
According to Ndukwe, there was a random arrest by the Unit on February 16, 2018, in which he was a victim. without any concrete reason, he was taken and beaten, later transferred to their office in Ikeja. But it never stopped there, as the officers still went ahead to stabbed him at the different parts of his body trying to smoke out information he never had.
Ndukwa said the same officers went to his shop at Alaba forced the door open started auctioned the items to people. He lost his business and they never remitted the money to him.
As of when he was testifying, he was in a wheelchair which she claimed that the officers took him up a two-story building and threw him off, which led to is his spine paralysis.
The petitioner claimed that he has lost fifteen (15) million-naira worth of goods and will like the government to compensate him.
