All is set for the World Athletics Awards billed to hold in December as Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo will look to end 2020 with the World Athlete of the year title.
Jacob Kiplimo who recently made history by becoming the first Ugandan to win gold in a world half marathon in a record time of 58 minutes 49 seconds will slug it out with fellow Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei whose 5000m world record set at the Wanda Diamond League was approved in October.
Other athletes nominated in the men’s category includes Kenya’s Timothy Cheruiyot, Donavan Brazier (USA), Ryan Crouser (USA), Mondo Duplantis (Sweden), Noah Lyes (USA), Daniel Stahl (Sweden), Johannes Better (Germany), Karsten Warholm (Norway).
In the female category are Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon, Peres Jepchirchir, and Hellen Obiri, Elaine Thompson- Herah (Jamaica), Ababel Yeshaneh ( Ethiopia), Letesenbet Gidey (Ethiopia), Sifan Hassan (Netherlands), Laura Muir (Great Britain), Yulimar Rojas (Venezuela), Femke Bol (Netherlands).
The winners will be announced on Saturday 5th December 2020 at the World Athletics Awards.
