Uganda’s Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has been arrested and whisked to an unknown location.
This happened immediately after Kyagulanyi had been officially declared a candidate for Uganda’s 2021 general election. A few minutes after he held the mandatory news conference at the nomination venue, Bobi Wine and his entourage including wife Barbie Kyagulanyi engaged in a scuffle that climaxed with Bobi moved to a police van and the wife given another car.
His news conference had focused a lot on the Yoweri Museveni regime which he refers to as “dictatorial” and one he calls upon people to “dare to hope, believe and dream again with a determination to forget lamentations and act through the ballot to oust a junta that has ruled the country for 35 years”.
The musician-turned-politician has endured a torturous three-year political period; surviving an assassination a few years ago and going through various legal processes to have his national unity platform party binding.
During this nomination process, Bobi Wine isn’t alone among politicians facing the Police’s wrath.
Forum for Democratic Change party(FDC) candidate Patrick Oboi Amuriat also had to be ‘ferried’ by Police to the nomination center where he arrived minus shoes and relevant documents.
This is just developing and we shall provide updates.
