President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been the first candidate to be nominated for the 2021 Uganda Presidential elections on the first day of the exercise at Kyambogo University.
He asked people to maintain peace during the elections and not to follow those who are planning to disorganize the peace. The President warned all trouble makers that they should not even think of it because they will regret their actions.
‘If you hear anyone planning violence report him. If we find any corrupt police officer, we shall remove him and bring others who want to work. No one should be intimidated by these crooks’
Candidate Yoweri Museveni arrived at the nomination center at 10:00 am and presented his credentials to the Electoral Commission.
The President was accompanied by the First Lady Janet Museveni, The Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, Al Hajji Moses Kigongo the Party Vice Chairperson, Justine Kasule Lumumba the NRM Secretary General among others.
The EC Chairman Justice Simon Byabakama once again went through the election guidelines and read the names of all the Presidential aspirants that had been approved to contest for the elections.
After going through Museveni’s documents, he was then declared as the first Presidential contestant for the 2021 Uganda elections.
‘I Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, being the returning officer for the nomination of Presidential Candidates hereby declare that Yoweri Museveni Tibuhaburwa Kaguta a duly nominated candidate in respect of the Presidential elections 2021 having fulfilled the nomination requirements under the Presidential Elections Act 2005 as amended’
While speaking to the press immediately after the nomination, President Museveni thanked all his supporters and party members for standing with him.
He reminded Ugandans that the Covid-19 pandemic is still in the country and we should continue observing the Standard Operating Procedures.
After the nomination exercise, The President left the venue and went to prepare for his manifesto launch scheduled for Speke Resort Munyonyo later in the day.
