It was reported that at least 15 persons died mysteriously within 14 days as a result of an unknown disease in Ute Okpu and Idunmesa communities, Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State.
This is coming when the world is battling with the global pandemic (Covid-19) that has claimed more than one thousand lives in Nigeria and over a million globally. This has affected the economic balance of every nation as most countries are about to enter the second face of lockdown.
As for Nigeria, Lassa fever is not yet over, as many have lost their lives as a result of the disease, which is caused by rodents.
The Health Commissioner, Dr Mordi Ononye confirmed the new outbreak of disease and said, a team of health workers alongside representatives of the World Health Organization are already on the ground investigating the matter. He said, samples are taken for laboratory tests, while they await results.
However, there is a high level of viral haemorrhagic fever, and drug intoxication. But it is expected that the result from the collected sample will give clearer information on what sort of disease it is for the government to know what step to take.
