Ugandan Top Security Chiefs have met to form a committee that will oversee the forth coming November nominations of the 2021 elections.
Those who attended were, The Chief of Defence Forces Gen. David Muhoozi, Minister for Internal Affairs Gen. Jeje Odongo, Deputy Inspector of Police Sabiti Mzee, Commissioner General of Prisons Dr Johnson Byabashaija, Army Spokesperson Brig. Flavia Byekwaso, Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, Prisons Spokeperson Frank Baine and the Head of the National Association of Broadcasters Kin Kaliisa.
They agreed to form a committee which will be responsible for the media and security lessons.
‘Together with the media, we shall be able to establish a working relationship in light of what has so far happened so that going forward we in particular during this election cycle, shall be able to work together’
The committee will be headed by the Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo.
The Chairperson of the Association of Broadcasters Kin Karisa asked the security forces to allow journalists do their work without any interference.
‘Given that media is critical, we need to be given space to do our job. If there are issues to be dealt with, let them be handled in a manner that is civil than arresting and beating them. We want to be stakeholders’
Uganda will be going to the polls early next year and the nominations kick off early November.
