The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mohammadu Buhari GCFR addressed Nigerians after 15 days of #EndSARS protest which claimed lives of innocent citizens in Lagos and others States. The President in his speech told Nigerians that their “demands and yearnings are heard loud and clear”.
The President said, “The choice to agitate peacefully is enshrined in our constitution, but this right to protest also imposes on the demonstrators the responsibility to respect the rights of other citizens as it necessitates to operate within the law”.
Buhari said, that he is aware of the hardship that has engulfed the world, and he is determined to see that he alleviate 100 Nigerians out of poverty. In his effort, he has created a N75 billion National Youth Investment Fund; an opportunity to fund both small and micro-businesses. Secondly, to pay 3 months’ salaries of the staff of micro and medium enterprises.
Among other initiatives, he is giving a grant of N30, 000 to one hundred thousand artisans. Through the social investment scheme 400, 000 Nigerians are to benefit from the FarmerMoni, TraderMoni, MarketMoni, Npower, N-Teach, and N-Agro.
He appreciated the international community for their concern over the recent happenings in the nation. But he called on them to always verify issues before taking any decision.
The President mentioned, that his government will always ensure liberty and freedom, as well as, the fundamental rights of all citizens, but they should remember that government also have obligation to protect lives and properties, as well as, the rights of citizens to go about their daily businesses free from violence.
