Uganda Cranes head coach Jonathan McKinstry has summoned a 20-man squad of only foreign-based players ahead of November’s Africa cup of nation’s double-header qualifier against South Sudan.
While revealing the team at the federation’s headquarters in Mengo, Coach Mckinstry said that “these will increase to 25-26 players with the addition of leading players from the Uganda Premier League whom we will confirm in due course”.
The 20 are goalkeepers Denis Onyango and Salim Magoola. Defenders Joseph Ocaya, Alex Kakuba, Nicholas Wadada, Elvis Bwomono, Ronald Mukiibi, and Timothy Awanyi. Michael Azira, Aucho Khalid, Kizito Luwagga, Miya Farouk, Emmanuel Okwi, Allan Kyambadde, Allan Okello, Fahad Bayo, Lubega Edrisa, Ikpeazu Uche, and Bakka Alexis complete the team.
Uganda plays South Sudan between 9 and 17 November with Uganda hosting the first game at St. Mary’s Kitende stadium in Wakiso district due to unavailability of the national stadium that must undergo renovation, but is currently a covid-19 isolation center.
Uganda leads group B standings on four points with a victory over South Sudan likely to seal qualification from the group that also has Malawi and Burkina Faso.
